Before Your First Class

Everything you need to know before stepping onto the mat.

Getting Started

Comfortable athletic clothing is perfect — a t-shirt with shorts or leggings works well, plus a pair of flip flops or sandals to wear off the mat. For a Gi class, we can lend you a gi for your first (free) class, so there’s nothing to buy before you try.

No. You don’t need to get in shape before starting — training itself builds conditioning, strength, coordination, and confidence. Start where you are and go at your own pace.

None at all. Beginners are welcome, and coaches will show you where to stand, what to do, and how to train safely.

No. For a first (free) Gi class, we can provide a loaner gi when one’s available.

Bring water and comfortable athletic clothing. Keep fingernails and toenails trimmed, and remove jewelry before training.

Try to arrive about 10–15 minutes early so you have time to check in, meet the coaches, and get situated.

Yes. Prospective students and parents are welcome to visit and observe — just contact us first so we can make sure someone’s available to meet you.

Kids & Families

Our kids classes are coach-led and built around age-appropriate technique, control, and awareness. There’s no striking in kids classes, partners are matched by size, age, experience, and the needs of the class, and coaches supervise training throughout.

Kids can start as young as 3 in Little Shields. See our programs for each age group.

Yes. Parents are welcome to stay in the designated waiting/viewing area while their child trains.

We run age- and program-specific classes — Little Shields, Young Swords, Armor Bearers, and more — and coaches also consider size, maturity, experience, and training needs. See our programs.

No. There’s no striking in kids classes.

It depends on the class schedule and each child’s age and program. Check the schedule to see what lines up.

Yes — in the designated waiting/eating area. Please keep food and drinks out of the Kids Room.

Start with a schedule you can keep and build consistency over time — even once or twice a week adds up. Train as your life allows.

Schedules can occasionally shift for holidays, weather, events, tournaments, or gym needs. Check the schedule and events pages for the latest.

No. Bible Study isn’t every Friday — please confirm before attending.

No long-term contract — memberships are month-to-month. Pausing or cancelling simply requires 30 days’ written notice. See our membership policies for the details.

Pauses require 30 days’ written notice and are meant for real temporary situations — injury, surgery, deployment, extended travel, temporary relocation, or significant family circumstances. Details on our membership policies page.

Cancelling requires 30 days’ written notice. If notice comes in less than 30 days before your next payment, that payment still processes and you keep training through the paid period. See our membership policies.

Founder Pricing stays with you while your membership remains continuously active. If you cancel and later return, you’ll enroll at the membership rates in place at that time.

Academy & Culture

Yes. Ephesians Six is a Christian, faith-centered academy — our name comes from Ephesians 6 and the Armor of God.

Not at all. You’re welcome to train wherever you are in your faith journey, while being respectful of our Christian identity and culture.

Yes. Beginners are welcomed and coached through the fundamentals from day one.

Very. We intentionally serve kids, teens, adults, women, homeschool families, and whole families training together.

Coaches consider size, age, experience, and the needs of the class when pairing students.

Mats are cleaned every training day.

Tell a coach before class so training can be adjusted where appropriate. We’re coaches rather than medical professionals, so for medical questions please check with your doctor.
